More Options
The Advanced Search area allows a basic search to be refined by several different criteria in any combination.
Important: To execute a search, something must be entered in the Basic Search box. Additional criteria may be selected in the "Options" area, but these serve only as an additional filter for the Basic Search.
The additional search criteria in this area are:
Course Subject
A complete list of course subjects offered at the University of Kansas are listed with both their abbreviated forms and their full names. Some subjects are only offered in certain semesters, so it is possible that a particular subject/term combination will produce no results.
Course Code
Lists principal course codes and other course codes. Selecting a code will limit the results to courses which are flagged with that code.
Campus
KU offers course in many locations. To find courses taught on a specific campus or as Study Abroad courses, select the location here.
Course Number
Allows selection of a range of course numbers. Lower numbered courses are usually for freshmen and sophomores. Courses in the 500-699 range are generally offered to both undergraduate and graduate students. 700-level courses and above are for graduate and professional (e.g. Law, Medicine) students.
Credit Hours
Display only courses matching a specific number of credit hours. Note: Some courses are offered with a range of possible credit hours. Choosing a number in this search option will also return courses where the selected number is within the range. For example, a search for HIST and 3 credit hours will include HIST 492, "Readings in History," which may be taken for one to four credit hours.
Term
Depending on the time of year, this option may default to "Any" (when there is more than one term active in the system) or to a specific term(when only one term is active). In April, for example, the Spring, Summer and Fall terms are all active - Spring is current and Summer and Fall are eligible for viewing.
Days
Restricts the search results to only the courses offered on the specified days. A few of the most commonly occurring days are at the top of the list followed by all the other day schedules used by the courses in the active term(s).
Start Time
Use this option to find courses offered at a specific time of day. The times given are for the start of the class periods. Some additional ranges are provided at the top:
- Morning - Classes beginning before noon
- Afternoon - Classes beginning between noon and 4:59pm
- Evening - Classes beginning at 5:00pm and later
Include Full Sections
This is the only option that will expand the search results rather than restrict them. By default, only courses with at least one section that has seats available will be returned. Selecting this checkbox will return all courses matching the other search criteria, whether they're full or not. Classes which are full will show a Seats Available number in red and may allow enrollment by permission from the professor or department if the classroom is not full.
